Weidehaltung folgt in Deutschland weiterhin einem Abwärtstrend: Nur noch 31 % der Rinder in Deutschland haben Zugang zur Weide; die meisten Milchkühe und Rinder stehen ganzjährig im Stall und werden zu 60 % mit auf dem Acker produzierten Silagen und Futtermitteln versorgt.
Ziel der Milchvieh- und Rinderhaltung sollte es jedoch sein, das Potenzial des Grünlands nachhaltig auszuschöpfen, den Acker zu entlasten und das Tierwohl zu fördern. Ohne Beweidung durch Rinder, Schafe, Ziegen oder Pferde würden langfristig insbesondere die Artenvielfalt sowie der Klima- und Bodenschutz durch Grünland verlorengehen.
Im Rahmen von Grazing4AgroEcology (G4AE) stehen Landwirte und Landwirtinnen im Mittelpunkt eines thematischen Netzwerks – zur Bereitstellung und Entwicklung von Lösungen für nachhaltige, integrierte weidebasierte Tierproduktionssysteme.
G4AE agiert mit 18 Partnern in acht Ländern (Frankreich, Deutschland, Irland, Italien, Niederlande, Portugal, Rumänien, Schweden). Ein Netzwerk von 120 Partnerbetrieben (15 pro Land) ermöglicht die Erfassung und Umsetzung von Best Practices und Innovationen zur Förderung der agrarökologischen Weidehaltung in Europa. Ein 3-stufiger Multi-Akteurs-Ansatz, der auf Ko-Kreation und Wissensaustausch basiert, bezieht alle relevanten Akteure des AKIS (landwirtschaftliches Wissens- und Informationssystem), einschließlich Landwirtschaft, Industrie, Bildung, Forschung, Beratung, Gesellschaft usw. aktiv ein.
Dies fördert das Innovationskapital, trägt wesentlich zur Übertragbarkeit von Best Practices und Innovationen bei und ermöglicht die Vernetzung von relevanten Akteursgruppen. G4AE innoviert den Weidesektor, indem es die Fähigkeit der Landwirte und Landwirtinnen stärkt, ihre eigene agrarökologische Leistung durch eine integrierte Selbsteinschätzung objektiv zu bewerten und zu steigern.
Durch die in G4AE umgesetzten Aktivitäten werden die Kapazitäten in der Landwirtschaft für die Weidehaltung von Wiederkäuern gestärkt und die Weidehaltung so optimiert, dass sie positive wirtschaftliche, ökologische und gesellschaftliche Ziele erfüllt. Auch das nationale Weide-AKIS wird durch die Zusammenarbeit zwischen verschiedenen Akteuren, Co-Design und Wissensaustausch gestärkt.
